The West Java chapter of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has voiced its rejection of a planned visit by Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes, to Bandung next Tuesday, saying it objects to the selection process that led to her crowning.
“It's not the fact that she's Miss Universe, but look at the selection process. There's a session where they have to wear bikinis; and from what I heard, their heights and the size of their breasts were also measured. This is clearly forbidden in Islam,” MUI West Java secretary Rafani Akhyar said Thursday in Bandung.
“She came out of the process and is now being adored, as if a Miss Universe has a high position [in society]. This is the difference between Islam and a secular nation,” he added, as quoted by Antara.
Rafani reiterated that the selection process of the Miss Universe contest was an assault toward women.
He said he had no problem if Lopes came to Bandung only to shop, but not if it was to officially meet with Bandung’s Deputy Mayor Dada Rosada, as has been scheduled.
“She can shop at the factory outlets. It's even better if she brings a lot of money to shop here. But I think it would be much better if we had a Nobel laureate or a world-class athlete coming here; that would be more useful,” Rafani said.billy ray cyrus|cheap airline tickets|betty broderick|lil b|storm surge
