A flood hit 10 villages in Sukolilo district in Pati regency, Central Java, on Saturday, killing two elderly people in the process.
National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told The Jakarta Post on Sunday that the dead victims were 65-year-old Jarmil, a resident of Wegil village, and Rebo, 65, from Prawoto village.
Sutopo said the flood had leveled a total of 59 houses, badly damaged 54 others and caused 16 bridges to collapse.
“The flood is estimated to have affected 2,000 families,” Sutopo said.
He added the Central Java office of BNPB had sent logistics and aid, including food, medicines and clothing to the flood-affected areas.
Several other provinces, including East Java and Central Sulawesi, also reported floods on Saturday.
